Own The Process

It’s simple, you’re either happy or you’re not. You’re either moving forward or you’re staying still. You’re either becoming a better version of yourself or accepting the complacency of what is.

Why is it so hard for us to make a change - to take that first step towards a better future that we crave and long for, what we know we deserve. Do we struggle with the burden of accountability that looms over us when embarking on a new goal, or are we scared of the potential defeat, or failure? How can we push these thoughts aside, plow through mental hurdles and just start?

Something that has become all too apparent in my coaching and personal training endeavors is that we must let go of our ego that surrounds a task, habit or goal and remember that progress is progress. That forward is forward - whether we move an inch or a mile, we’re heading in the right direction and starting where we can. Wherever that might be, it’s okay. Everyone has their square one, their “start” - where things seem overbearing, or that there is too much ground to “make up”. These are the ego-driven justifications we tell ourselves to make it easier to not take action.

Becoming a better version of yourself is a tough kind of “self-love” and leaves no room for a “victim” mindset, for excuses, or justifications.

We need to take accountability for our habits, our routines, the food we put into our bodies and how we’re managing our physical health on a day to day basis. We must consistently sharpen our sword and take full control over our thoughts, our emotions, our intent and actions. This is the backbone, our system if you will,  for how we operate and move the needle.

Mental barriers are very real and as humans we do a great job of making things more difficult than they actually are, or would be, in reality. So what can we do?

A solution focused, challenge mindset, will help us stay fixed on the process and not the outcome.

Once we can learn to take on the challenge and fall in love with the journey of betterment, the outcomes will be a byproduct along the way.

Try this 👇

Restructure your thought process when taking on new goals. Ask yourself this:

What specifically is in your control?

What actionable steps towards the goal can you take right now?

What are 1-3 micro, or process, goals that you can focus on in the first 1-2 weeks of starting? (simple & attainable always wins)

If you can focus on the small wins and ignore the inner ego of doubt, you will learn to enjoy the journey for what it is and remove the pressures associated with an end or “due date.” This is how we build momentum and empower ourselves to achieve more.
